Jackson Juska, 2021 Engineering Intern (Honolulu, HI Office)

Article by Communications Staff |

As a Webb Institute Senior (studying Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering), Jackson came to Hawaii for a two-month Mechanical Engineering internship at Martin Defense Group (MDG) in Honolulu.

What type of project(s) did you work on during your internship?

I worked on a fascinating project related to expanding inflatable structure technology.

Why did you seek out an internship with MDG?

The school I attend – Webb Institute – and MDG have a long-standing relationship. I know a lot of peers that have done an Engineering internship with MDG and my supervisor during the internship is also a Webb grad. And the internship is in Hawaii, so what’s not to love about that?!

What is your favorite thing about living in Hawaii?

I think the best thing about living in Hawaii is definitely the people. They are wonderful.

What is unique about your experience at MDG?

What is unique about this company is the wide diversity of projects engineers work on. For example, during the last week of my internship, I was helping with both on the water and on land testing. Apparently, it’s typical that engineers spend about 60% of their time in the office and about 40% of their time in the field. You’re always doing something new, and I think it’s impossible for an engineer to get bored at this company.
